A care home in Hounslow has been shut after unacceptable levels of the bacteria that causes Legionnaires disease were found in the water supply.

The 34 elderly residents at the home in Feltham Dene have been moved to alternative accomodation while the Legionella bacteria is eliminated.

Hounslow councillor Pam Fisher, who is responsible for community services, said: "The safety of residents and staff has to be our main priority, so we quickly decided to shut the home following expert technical advice. All the residents have been found alternative accommodation and we are working with their families to help them settle in as soon as possible."
